This series is designed for school and district teams interested in addressing equity issues, developing cultural competence, exploring systemic inequalities and the relationship of power and unearned advantages, and examining the differences within culture and diversity. Through this training participants will better understand themselves and their students as cultural beings.

Teams will leave with the ability to create an inclusive learning environment and develop practices, strategies, and curriculum that include and honor the life experiences and cultures of their students.


  • Validate, affirm, build, and bridge different ethnicities, cultures, and life experiences of students as they begin to understand and learn about expectations at school
  • Examine systems, structures, policies, and practices to gauge impact on all students
  • Use self-awareness skills to recognize, reflect, and work on how your own ethnicity, culture, and life experiences may affect others
  • Establish crucial, data-driven, culturally responsive practices within a multi-level system of supports


  • Building administrators, district curriculum administrators, grade-level teachers, special educators, instructional leaders
  • Teams of six with representation from elementary, middle, and high school levels
  • Include a district- and/or school-level administrator
  • Include individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds
  • Consider including a non-academic staff or family member to bring additional perspective
